چکیده

The controversy about the sex distribution in Left Bundie Branch Block (LBBB) led us to study what occurred in 56 hospitalized patient~s affected by LBBB and ischemic heart disease (IHD). In the group of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), 26 patients, with a high incidence of pump faiture (73%) an a mortality of 33%, the male/female (M/F) ratio was clearly reduced in relation to the global AMI M/F ratio (1.9:1 against 3.5:1). In the group without AMI, there was a female predosninance and, namely in cases with unstable angina, the M/F ratio was reversed (1:2 against 2:1 in the general group with unstable angina). Hypertension did not seem responsible for the absence of male prevalence in patients with IHD. The reasons of this phenomenon — the relative female prevalence of LBBB in patients with AMI, and the absolute female predominance in cases without AMI — seem to be obscure at the moment. It is possible that, for the majority of patients with JHD and LBBB, LBBB does not have a simple etiology. The hypothesis of the coexistence of IHD with a prirnary degenerative disease of the conduction system is admitted.

Bundle-Branch Block in a General Male Population

Background—Interest in bundle-branch block has focused primarily on its role as a predictor of mortality and coexisting cardiovascular diseases. Previous studies of prevalence, correlation to cardiovascular disease, and mortality have produced conflicting results. Methods and Results—We studied a random-sampled population of 855 men who were 50 years old in 1963 and followed them up for 30 year...

Gender differences in advanced heart failure: insights from the BEST study.

OBJECTIVES The goal of this study was to determine the influence of gender on baseline characteristics, response to treatment, and prognosis in patients with heart failure (HF) and impaired left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). BACKGROUND Under-representation of women in HF clinical trials has limited our understanding of gender-related differences in patients with HF. METHODS The impa...

Right bundle branch block: prevalence, risk factors, and outcome in the general population: results from the Copenhagen City Heart Study.

AIMS To determine the prevalence, predictors of newly acquired, and the prognostic value of right bundle branch block (RBBB) and incomplete RBBB (IRBBB) on a resting 12-lead electrocardiogram in men and women from the general population. METHODS AND RESULTS We followed 18 441 participants included in the Copenhagen City Heart Study examined in 1976-2003 free from previous myocardial infarctio...

Rate dependent left bundle branch block with gradual transition between normal intraventricular conduction and complete left bundle branch block. A case report.

A case of 70-year-old woman with ischemic heart disease is presented. The electrocardiogram showed atrial fibrillation and a tachycardia-dependent, left bundle branch block. A number of intermediate QRS patterns from normal intraventricular conduction to complete left bundle branch block were seen, and the transition was gradual. Increasing grades of aberrance were seen following a shorter prec...

Prevalences of ECG findings in large population based samples of men and women.

OBJECTIVE To obtain accurate estimates of the prevalence of ECG abnormalities in the general population and to describe them in relation to age, sex, and some lifestyle related factors. DESIGN The results were obtained from the records of 47 358 men and women participating in four large Belgian epidemiological studies during the past 30 years. All tracings were read and coded by two trained c...
